Biography
Chris Craft was born in Porthleven, Cornwall, on 17 November 1939. He began racing in 1962 in a Ford Anglia. He raced saloon cars, above all in the Broadspeed Escort between 1968 and 1970. He also drove in Formula Three and, from 1968, in sports cars, first with a Chevron and then alongside Alain de Cadenet.
That link took him into Formula One in 1971. He was entered for two races in a Brabham BT33 prepared by de Cadenet's Ecurie Evergreen team. He failed to qualify for the Canadian Grand Prix, and his car had engine trouble. At Watkins Glen, his only start, he retired with suspension and tyre problems. He scored no points.
Away from Formula One he kept racing saloon cars, sports cars, Formula Three and Formula 5000. He won the European Sportscar Championship in 1973 and finished third at the 1976 24 Hours of Le Mans. Craft died on 20 February 2021.
