Biography
Chris Bristow, born on 2 December 1937 in Lambeth, was a British racing driver. He started four Formula One World Championship races, one in 1959 and three in 1960, all in a Cooper. He did not score any points.
At the 1960 Monaco Grand Prix he lined up fourth on the grid but retired on lap 17 with gearbox trouble. At the Dutch Grand Prix he started seventh, but he dropped out in the opening laps with an engine problem.
Bristow was killed at the Belgian Grand Prix on 19 June 1960. On lap 20 he crashed at the Burnenville corner while trying to stay ahead of Willy Mairesse's Ferrari. He was 22. Whoever wins the Autosport BRDC Award for up-and-coming young British drivers also receives the Chris Bristow Trophy.
