Biography
Bud Tingelstad was born in Frazee, Minnesota, in 1928. The American raced in the USAC Championship Car series from 1960 to 1971.
His only Formula One World Championship race was the 1960 Indianapolis 500. That race counted towards the drivers' championship from 1950 to 1960, which is why Indy drivers appear in the Formula One record books. Tingelstad started it in a Trevis and did not score any points.
In USAC he won one race, at DuQuoin in 1966. His best result at the Indianapolis 500 was sixth place in 1964, the same year he finished fifth in the season standings. He failed to qualify at Indianapolis in 1961 and 1970. Tingelstad died in Indianapolis in 1981.
