Biography
Brian Henton, born in Chaddesden in 1946, did not start racing until he was 23. He won the British Formula Vee championship in 1971 and both British Formula Three championships in 1974.
He made his Formula One debut with Lotus in 1975. Until 1978 he divided his time between Formula One and Formula Two, including a spell in a privately entered March for his own team, the British Formula One Racing Team. In 1977 he raced in the world championship for Boro and March. In 1980 he won the European Formula Two Championship with Toleman, who took him into Formula One for 1981. With the first Toleman car he qualified for only a single race that year. In 1982 he drove for Arrows and Tyrrell and started 14 races. Across his career he made 19 starts and never scored a championship point. He still set a fastest lap at the British Grand Prix, and he is the only driver in Formula One history to have done so without scoring a point.
His final Formula One appearance came at the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch in April 1983, the last non-championship Formula One race of the modern era.
