Brian
Gubby
Biography
Brian Gubby was born in Epsom, Surrey, on 17 April 1934. He began in motor sport with rallying and also raced an Austin A30 and a Jaguar before moving into Formula Junior in the early 1960s. He then moved up to Formula Libre, bought a Lotus 24 and won, among other races, the Gold Flake Trophy at Leinster with it. He entered a Lotus in the 1964 Mediterranean Grand Prix at Pergusa, but crashed in practice and could not take part in the race.
His only entry in a Formula One World Championship race was the 1965 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, driving a Lotus. In practice the car would not stay in sixth gear at high speed. Gubby decided to end his racing career, did not appear for the next day's practice and did not start the race. He later worked as a racehorse trainer based in Bagshot.
