Bill Schindler (William Lawrence Schindler) was born on 6 March 1909 in Middletown, United States. He began racing sprint cars in 1931 and took up midget racing on the East Coast from 1934. He was president of the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) and won its championships in 1940, 1945, 1946 and 1948. In both 1947 and 1948 he won 53 midget feature races.

That gave him three World Championship starts, for Snowberger, Kurtis Kraft and Stevens. His best finish was 13th and he scored no championship points. He died on 20 September 1952 in a sprint car race at Allentown, Pennsylvania. He was inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame (1985), the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (1998) and the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame (2004).
