Biography
Bill Mackey was born on 15 December 1927 in Dayton in the United States. His birth name was William Christopher Gretsinger Jr. He was an American racing driver.
His only World Championship race was the 1951 Indianapolis 500, which he contested in a Hall car. The event counted towards the Drivers' World Championship from 1950 to 1960, which is why the drivers in that race appear in Formula One records. Mackey made one start and scored no championship points.
In the same year, on 29 July 1951, he died aged 23 while trying to qualify for an AAA sprint car race at Funk's Speedway in Winchester, Indiana.
