Biography
Andy Linden was born in 1922 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. He served in the US Navy, where he stood out as a boxer, and in the National Guard, and he drove hot rods in Los Angeles.
His link to the Formula One World Championship came through the Indianapolis 500, which counted towards the drivers' championship from 1950 to 1960. Linden was therefore an Indy 500 driver: he started the race once a year from 1951 to 1957, seven starts in all. In 1951 he drove a Sherman and finished twelfth in the championship. In each season from 1952 to 1957 he also drove cars built by Kurtis Kraft. In 1957 he ended up 18th in the standings. He took no wins, podiums or pole positions in the World Championship.
A crash in 1957 ended his career. He was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2013. Linden died in 1987 in Harbor City, California.
