Biography
Allen Berg was born in Vancouver on 1 August 1961. He started karting in 1978 and moved into Formula Atlantic at the age of 20. In 1983 he won the Tasman Formula Pacific Series in Australia and New Zealand, then entered British Formula 3, where he won a race and finished fifth in the standings. In 1984 he was runner-up in that series behind Johnny Dumfries. Tests with Arrows and Tyrrell did not lead to a Formula One seat.
Berg joined Osella midway through 1986, taking over the seat of Christian Danner, who had moved to Arrows. He started nine races, and it remained his only Formula One season. In 1991 he drove a privately run BMW M3 in the DTM, won the Mexican Formula 2 championship in 1993 and took the Indy Lights Panamericana title in 2001 as a driver-owner. He then retired from driving and has stayed involved in motor sport, among other things as a driving coach.
