Biography

Alexander Dunne was born on 11 November 2005 in County Offaly, Ireland. His father, Noel Dunne, was also a racing driver and won the Irish Formula Ford F1600 series twice. Alexander took up karting at the age of eight, won national titles in Ireland in 2015 and also raced in Britain for the first time that year. From 2018 he competed in mainland Europe, and in 2019 he won the WSK Champions Cup in the OK-Junior class.

He made his single-seater debut in 2021, in Spanish Formula 4 with Pinnacle Motorsport and then in ADAC Formula 4 with US Racing, finishing that season eighth. In 2022 he won the British Formula 4 title with Hitech, setting a record of eleven wins in a single season of the series. In Italian Formula 4 he finished runner-up to Andrea Kimi Antonelli with US Racing. In 2023 he took second place in the GB3 Championship with Hitech and five wins, behind Callum Voisin. In 2024 he raced for MP Motorsport in FIA Formula 3 and ended the year 14th with 50 points.

He moved up to Formula 2 with Rodin Motorsport in 2025. He won the feature races in Bahrain and Imola, took poles in Monaco and at Spa-Francorchamps, and finished fifth overall. He was also part of McLaren's junior programme in 2024 and 2025. In 2025 he tested a Formula 1 McLaren at Zandvoort, then took part in his first free practice session at the Austrian Grand Prix in Lando Norris's car. He did his second free practice session for McLaren at the Italian Grand Prix, in place of Oscar Piastri. His time in the McLaren programme ended ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. In December 2025 it was announced that he would race for Rodin in Formula 2 again in 2026, alongside Martinius Stenshorne. In 2026 he joined the Alpine Academy.
