Biography
Alex Dias Ribeiro was born in Belo Horizonte on 7 November 1948. In 1976 he finished fifth in the European Formula Two Championship, and in the same year he made his Formula One debut with Hesketh.
In 1977 he drove for March. He was entered in 17 races but started only nine, and he scored no World Championship points. In 1978 he ran a privately owned Formula Two team in the European Championship and won a round at the Nürburgring after the favourites retired. He is the only Brazilian to have won on the circuit in its 22.8 kilometre form. In 1979 the Fittipaldi team gave him two opportunities to qualify a second car, in Canada and the United States, but he failed to qualify both times. In total he made 10 World Championship starts.
He worked as a chaplain at Formula One events and drove the medical car until 2002. In 1994 he travelled to the World Cup in the United States as pastor to the Brazilian national football team.
