Biography
Al Pease was born in Darlington, England, in 1921 and grew up there. As a young man he served in the British Army, in India, Rhodesia and Egypt. In the 1960s he emigrated first to the United States and then to Canada. He worked briefly as an illustrator before turning to motor racing.
In the Formula One World Championship, Pease was entered in the Canadian Grand Prix three times, each time in an Eagle. In 1967 he started the race and was not classified, and in 1968 engine trouble kept him from starting. In 1969 he was disqualified after 22 laps for being too slow, by which point the leaders had completed 46. He is the only driver to have been disqualified from a World Championship race for that reason.
In Canadian domestic racing, Pease won five regional and two national championships. He was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 1998. He died in 2014.
