A crash means a race retirement from an accident, collision or spin. Starts exclude non-qualifications, non-starts and exclusions.History
The Zeltweg circuit was laid out on a military airfield in Styria, close to the town of Zeltweg. The airfield is the main airfield of the Austrian Air Force. The track was 3.186 km long, ran clockwise and had four corners.
The circuit was built in 1957. The idea came from the success of Silverstone Circuit in Britain, which had also been created on an airfield. The designers at Zeltweg, however, had not allowed for how abrasive the track surface was.
Zeltweg hosted just one round of the Formula One World Championship, the Austrian Grand Prix in 1964, won by Lorenzo Bandini for Ferrari. The Zeltweg 500 Kilometres, a World Sportscar Championship race, was held here later. The circuit was abandoned in 1969, after the purpose-built Österreichring had been constructed nearby at Kattigar.
