The Circuito de Monsanto, also known as the Monsanto Park Circuit, was located in Monsanto Forest Park, close to Lisbon in Portugal. The track was 5.44 km long, ran clockwise and had nine corners. It was laid out on parkland and took in a wide variety of road surfaces, including tramlines at one point, so it was considered a difficult circuit to drive.
Several races were held on the course between 1954 and 1959, but only one of them counted towards the Formula One World Championship: the 1959 Portuguese Grand Prix. Stirling Moss won it in a Cooper. The start had deliberately been set late in the day to avoid the fierce sun of late summer, so Moss took the win in the twilight.
The 1959 Grand Prix therefore remained the only Formula One race held at Monsanto.
