The Lusail International Circuit sits just outside the city of Lusail, north of Doha in Qatar. It is run clockwise, is 5.419 km long and has 16 corners, and its main straight measures 1.068 km. The track holds an FIA Grade 1 licence, and artificial grass around the circuit is meant to keep sand off the racing surface.
The venue was built in just under a year and opened in 2004, when it staged the first Qatar motorcycle Grand Prix, won by Sete Gibernau. Permanent floodlighting was installed in 2007, and in 2008 Lusail hosted the first night race in MotoGP history. A GP2 Asia Series night race followed in 2009. World Superbikes visited from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2014 to 2019, while the World Touring Car Championship came from 2015 to 2017. In 2024 the World Endurance Championship opened its season there for the first time, with the Qatar 1812 km.
Formula One arrived in 2021 with the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix, the 20th round of that season, on a layout of 5.38 km. There was no race in 2022. Before the second edition the circuit was renovated, the facilities were upgraded, and capacity rose from 8,000 to 52,000. Since 2023 the lap has measured 5.419 km.
Lewis Hamilton won the first race in 2021 for Mercedes. Max Verstappen then won for Red Bull in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The drivers' world championship was decided in Qatar in 2023. The Qatar Grand Prix is also part of the 2026 Formula One calendar.
